Translation vs Localization for Hotels

Why correct translation is only the starting point when a hospitality business is selling an experience.

Translation transfers meaning between languages. Localization goes further: it considers audience, tone, commercial context, cultural expectations and how a phrase will actually be received.

That distinction matters in hospitality because the product is experiential. A hotel is selling comfort, atmosphere, service, destination and trust before the guest arrives. Literal language can communicate the facts while failing to communicate the experience.

Effective localization therefore asks not only “Is this accurate?” but also “Would a native-speaking guest expect a credible hospitality brand to say it this way?”
